‘As salaam aleikum’ Reflection

Have you ever noticed how in many languages there is a greeting and a departing greeting?
Hello and Goodbye.

But in Islam, we say ‘As salaam aleikum’ both when we meet and depart. Ever thought about what that might signify?

Perhaps it means we are always together and never apart. As if, we just haven’t talked in a little while, but we are really close, in fact. To show that we are all one and united.

Or perhaps it means that we are at peace with each other. Life is full of conflict and this greeting brings peace first between two Muslims.

Or perhaps it shows that life is continuous and that relationships never end. They are only delayed a while until the continue.

Subhana kallahumma wa bihamdik ash-haduana la illaha illa ant astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk. Ameen.
