Smelly Dawah Literature?

Here’s a new idea for you.

Spray pamphlets and other Dawah literature with a certain perfume–a nice smelling one, don’t get me wrong!
And then use this as a subtle method of associating Islam with more positive thoughts.

I think it could work–the trick being that smell is the sense that is most closely associated with memory. And there is a very powerful tool for Dawah. Don’t you remember a certain shaykh by the strong attar smell he has? And then wanting to smell just like him? 😀

For this concept, it would probably be wise to use a natural smells (rose, jasmine, etc.), cologne or an attar perfume. Keep in mind that women using perfume is considered haraam (unless it’s inside the home with her husband etc).

If it is too strong than others may get allergies or with certain scents, headaches. Try it out sometimes, who knows–if kaffirs follow their nose and it guide them to the Truth of Islam? 😀

Subhana kallahumma wa bihamdika ash-haduna la illaha illa ant astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk, Ameen.

  1. Good idea! Didn’t Ayesha, radiallahu ‘anha, used to perfume her sadaqa before she gave it away? It’s amazing how one’s smell, memory and emotional centres are so well connected, subhanallah. 🙂

  2. “Don’t you remember a certain shaykh by the strong attar smell he has? And then wanting to smell just like him?”

Unfortunately I also remember a certain greasy, (albeit big hearted) pakistani who had a very strong smell – and it wasn’t ittar! And trust me I invest a lot of my time into NOT smelling just like him…

…maybe this would be a good way to give dawah to our own brothers..here bhaijhaan look at these muslim pamhplet for dawah…..that’s funny it smells like deodorant….mmmmmm i loooooooove the smell of deodorant….don’t YOU want to smell like that….YOU DO! – here you go i have one brand new for you right here in my pocket….

Seriously though, pamphlets are an amazing idea, but I think for dawah it should be more of a priority for our brothers (and sisters – that’s right you too!) to smell good if they are about to approach people – people who would probably runaway every time they see some of the brothers that – shall we say – have a unique scent.

    I’m not hating…I’m just being real…..

    Just A Thought

  3. Very innovative masha’Allah!!
    I’ll def. try that sometime.

    JazakAllahu khayr

P.S. first time checking out your blog… it’s great alhamdulillah 🙂
